5 Tips To Help You Increase Your Car’s Fuel Efficiency
Many people are trying to figure out ways in which they can save money. Since cars are the most used luxury, this article aims to highlight some basic fuel saving tips that could really help save a few extra pennies in the long term.
Since the summer is getting closer some people will start to use the Air Conditioner (AC) in their cars. Reducing the use of the AC will lower the rate of fuel consumption. However, if using the AC is necessary then use it sparingly on lower settings. Also, when the car has cooled down, then ensure that all windows are closed and switch to fan mode. This will also help save fuel. Another thing to note about the windows is to try and keep them closed, especially on long motorway journeys as the turbulence from the fast speed coming into the car, causes the engine to work harder, using more fuel. Also, only take as much luggage in your car as you need. Carrying excess luggage increases the weight of the car, causing the engine to work harder and inevitably use more fuel.
Another fuel saving tip is to rotate the tyres on the car in order to allow both the front and back wheels to get an even amount of wear and tear. If all wheels have even wear and tear then this could potentially decrease the level of strain on the cars engine, causing it to use less fuel.
Try to avoid traffic congestions and driving in busy traffic conditions during the mornings and evenings as constantly stopping and starting potentially uses more fuel. Try to miss the rush hour by leaving home early and finishing before or after the rush hour.
Purchase the lightest car that can serve your main needs. If things like child car seats are only used on the weekends then remove them from the car to lighten the load of the vehicle. If there is lots of luggage in your boot/trunk then remove it if it’s not required. It has been proven that having an extra 100 pound worth of weight in the car can potentially increase the cars fuel consumption by around 2%.
Finally, plan your road trip. Ensure that you have a route in mind so that you’re not driving around unnecessarily. Planning means that you only travel as much as you have to before reaching your destination. It also means your using less fuel than you would be if you had not have planned in advance and were constantly stopping and starting to ask for directions.
